About

Citizens across the country can use their voice – and a new web site – to influence the VP choice on the Democratic ticket. Citizens Consent has launched DraftObamaClinton.com to encourage Barack Obama to team up with Hillary Clinton against John McCain.

The web site gives the growing chorus calling for an Obama-Clinton ticket a very visible public forum. DraftObamaClinton.com has an online petition and other on-line tools to help spread the message.

“Senator Obama has inspired millions of people and shown we can turn the page and move to a new era in politics. Hillary Clinton has long experience that will be a great balance on the ticket. That’s why we’re launching this site,” says Citizens Consent co-founder Jim Spencer, a Boston-based political consultant who works with Democratic candidates, labor unions, and progressive political organizations throughout the United States.

“There’s no animosity between the two camps. For months, people in both camps have been saying they want to see Senator Obama and Senator Clinton running together,” Spencer says.

“Our government works with the consent of the citizens, and the Presidential nominee chooses the vice president with the consent of the convention delegates. Our site is a tool for letting party leaders and convention delegates know we want an Obama-Clinton ticket,” Spencer said. “It’s about giving the citizens a voice in the vice presidential selection process.”

In January 2004, Citizens Consent launched a draft Kerry-Edwards web site and collected over a hundred thousand signatures to an on-line petition. Months later, Senator John Kerry selected Edwards as his running mate.

Citizens Consent is a grassroots organization dedicated to mobilizing citizens to participate more directly in our democracy. The organization is not affiliated with any campaign.
